Last night was the 2 hour finale of Being Mary Jane, which was interesting to say the least.
K: Mary Jane to me is like one of those disasters you just have to watch. She is what happens when people focus more on what things look like, than what they really are. She is a mess. The kind that you tune into on TV, but do not actually want in your life. Then again alot of you are Mary Janes. She has no control over her emotions seems to think that everything is supposed to change just because she changed her mind.
The family situation is understandable. We all have our own brand of dysfunction. Mama’s sick, but still trying to be fabulous. Dad’s just trying to hold it together. Big brother dealing with his demons. Little brother trying to get money by any means. Niece trying to fill the emptiness with kids. And MJ judging them all like her life isn’t a wreck.
The show is funny and entertaining, but also beautifully written and directed. The Akils have really stepped it up. Tackling subjects and showing things no other show would. The honesty is amazing. What other show would have a love scene between with the older folks? Who else would have an honest discussion about the light skin/good hair thing? That early conversation between Avery & MJ was amazing and so was the one from last night. I really enjoyed the season and can’t wait to see what happens next. And I’m glad Mary Jane didn’t end up with either Andre or David.
Simply Brown: Let me start off by saying Gabrielle Union makes an excellent Mary Jane. She manages to portray the creator so well and definitely shocked us throughout the season. I wasn’t too surprised that Mary Jane ended up being by herself but I did think she would have fought harder to be with Andre. I was under the impression that David didn’t want a relationship in the beginning and was seeing other women. Who would have known he would ever settle down with one woman and is planning to start a family. Too bad it’s not with Mary Jane though. But one thing I can say about David is that he’s not weak and can handle his self well under pressure. No matter how tempting and aggressive Mary Jane could be, he remained focus and stood his ground. Maybe Mary Jane can try out the online dating again, just hope she don’t get catfish.
