We were looking through our social media accounts, as we normally do and came across what appears to be a new challenge. Normally when we notice challenges on social media, it’s usually the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but this time around there was a slightly different challenge and it didn’t involve any ice or water.
As we all know, our very own Jackie Robinson West became the 2014 Little League United States Series Champions last week, and just recently returned home to a huge celebration. It wasn’t until today that throughout all the celebration, there was one particular player on the team, Jaheim Benton returned back to Chicago less fortunate than many of us. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Jaheim and his family are homeless and have been sleeping at the homes of friends and family since June. One of our very own, Chicago natives and athletes stepped up to the plate and decided to create a new challenge, the Chicago Unite Challenge (CUC) where he states the following: “We all did this ICE CHALLENGE, NOW LETS DO A “CHICAGO UNITE CHALLENGE” aka “CUC” and let’s all DONATE $5 to this kid (Jaheim Benton). I’m inspired that he as a child could be so focused and dedicated during all this Lil Madness and not having a steady home during the process so I CHALLENGE ALL MY HOOPING BUDDIES AND FRIENDS AND ANY OTHER FOLLOWERS THAT IS WILLING TO DONATE $5 IF YOU ACCEPT AND WANNA COMPLETE THE CHALLENGE COMMENT “$5″ UNDER THE PIC”. GO…LETS SEE WHAT CHICAGO REALLY MADE OF WHEN IT COMES TO THEY OWN AND I WILL START THE CHALLENGE…$100″. – Tony Bennett (@tbmr40plus).
If you would like to accept the CUC Challenge for Jaheim Benton and his family, go to gofundme.com to make a donation and if there’s anything that you can possibly donate to the family, follow Tony Bennett on Instagram @tbmr40plus for any additional updates and questions. If you don’t necessarily have a social media account, email us at email@example.com and we will find out the information for you.
UPDATE:Jaheim Benton and his family rent has been paid for an entire year. Read more about the generous donation on abcchicago.com. Tony Bennett will still pass all the funds collected through gofundme.com to the Benton Family for additional family expenses.
